Look at that sea, girls

“Look at that sea, girls--all silver and shadow and vision of things not seen. We couldn't enjoy its loveliness any more if we had millions of dollars and ropes of diamonds.”

Hello!

Hello my dear friends, I've been enjoying every second of my beach escape. Sea kayaking, reading at the beach and swimming with my pooch.  I enjoyed a lovely breakfast today with a fellow writer friend in an inspiring artist colony overlooking a sea port.

I'm off now to enjoy the final rays of sun and sea. BTW, Isn't that Tibi lobster dress a blast?

Don't forget the Shopbop giveaway! It ends soon!

Kisses from paradise.

Happy Monday!!

Happy Monday! I hope you enjoyed a fantastic weekend!  Mine was very low key, as planned.  I'm finishing  Rules Of Civility by Amor Twles, a Gatsby-esque romp through New York in the late thirties. It's fantastically written and the plot is riveting. Someone make a movie out of this story,  pretty please! And to Mr. Towles, who toils on Wall Street; please write another book, don't waste your precious talent in high finance...!

I will be posting sporadically this week, meetings in town and a short trip away oblige. I couldn't resist sharing these lovely photos by Ilona Jongepier in Paris. The styling is superb and the girl and dog, so sweet.

Speaking of lovable pups, if you happen to live in the Montreal area, I encourage you to drop in to Pitou, Minou & Compagnons, on Queen Mary Road for some special treats for your furry friends. The service is very friendly and second to none. In the next few weeks, they will be organizing pet adoption days and nail clippings. You can take a peek at their Facebook page for more details.

Have a fantastic week! xo

Happy Friday!!!

Happy Friday! Another week has rushed by...It's been a lot of running around with various projects to complete. What are you up to this weekend? I'm planning another low key weekend with some relaxing and a bit of work before heading off for a long weekend by the sea. I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to that!

I will be hosting another Shopbop giveaway next week, so please do drop in again.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Well, hello gorgeous!

I'm just looooooving this back to school styled editorial, in Glamour UK.

And I'm loving the look of pretty embroidered collars, such as the one found on the lovely lady portrayed on my friend Haleigh's blog, Making Magique.

You can also find some on Asos, and I've seen a few at Zara.

I  have some fun & exciting news to share soon, as well as another giveaway. Stay tuned!

Inspirational Lady

It's Danielle Steel's birthday today. I have lots of admiration for the lady. I'm not necessarily a huge fan of all of her writing, I am a huge fan of the woman. She's accomplished so much and attained astonishing success via loads of perspiration and hard work, working from 12 to 16 hours days while raising nine children (!)

I came across a series of quotes and facts about her that I thought I would share:

A little known fact about Danielle is that she penned her first novel, Going Home, in just three months. Pocket Books published the book in 1973. Her endeavor earned her $3,500. She's come a long way.

In between that first published book and the rest of her successful books, there was disappointment. Danielle Steel's next five books, plus a screenplay were rejected by publishers. Another little known fact about her is that, in order to make ends meet financially, she taught creative writing classes at University High in San Francisco. Fortunately, Steel didn't have to teach long. Her second novel, Passion 's Promise, was published in 1977.

Here are some quotes:
  • I'm astonished by my success.
  • I try to write about the stuff that torments us all.
  • I completed my first novel when I was 19 years old.
  • It's hard being visible, so I've made myself invisible.
  • If you see the magic in a fairy tale, you can face the future.
  • I have these wonderful homes, and no one to share them with.
  • I think I'm very real as a person, and that comes across in my work.
  • I try to give people hope. Even though life is bleak, there's hope out there.
  • My early reviews were so bad that I decided I didn't want to read them again.
  • A book begins with an image or character or situation that I care about deeply.
  • In my late teenage years, I developed a real passion for it, and wrote a lot of poetry.
  • People are much more inclined to believe and say bad things about you if you're famous.
  • My kids are more precious to me than anything. I'm with them all day, and I write all night.
  • I wrote because I needed to and wanted to. It never occurred to me that I'd become famous.
  • A bad review is like baking a cake with all the best ingredients and having someone sit on it.
  • I've shut myself inside these walls, and I'm going to be a very lonely old lady if I'm not careful.
  • I did it at night because I loved it. I never did it to make money, as a job. I just did it because I had to.
  • It's difficult to talk to people... I walk into a room and I'm Danielle Steel, and whatever I say is going to be taken apart.
  • Sometimes, if you aren't sure about something, you have to just jump off the bridge and grow wings on your way down.
  • I like summer. I like warmer weather and long days. I'm one of those silly people who still enjoy lying in the sun - my children are horrified!
  • The usual way - through a long series of rejections, revising my manuscripts, and kept trying again and again. Finally I was fortunate enough to find a good agent.

Happy Birthday Danielle!

Happy monday + transition time!

Happy Monday mes amies! I hope you enjoyed a fantastic weekend! Mine was low key, just what the doctor ordered (so to speak) to heal my foot back to complete health. I've been wearing nothing but flip flops and flats lately, so it's time to bring back my beloved heels!

As September is fast approaching, I'm thinking of transitional pieces to wear in the next month or so. Nothing beats a tailored blazer with white jeans, a khaki jacket with a pretty dress or a trench coat to finish things off.

Speaking of September, the Vogue September issue will be 916 pages of glorious fall fashion. Here's a peek at a great editorial about writer Edith Wharton.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I hear that the edition has made it in stores so off I go to pick up my copy!
